Itinerary

The lighthouse route, a must-see in Brittany? You bet! With plenty of nature-based activities along the way, your clients will have a great time. This 4-day excursion along the coast of Finistère offers you breathtaking scenery, sea breezes and aromas… And the added bonus? There are plenty of lovely hotels, guesthouses and eco-gites, all with fantastic sea views.

Step 01

(Re)Discover Brest, on foot... and by cable car

Come and discover the tip of Brittany! Reinvented, unexpected… Brest has never been more captivating. This City of Art and History is best explored on foot, from the bustling Rue de Siam to the lively Quai Commandant-Malbert, and all along the docks. You can also take a cable car for a 360° view of the roadstead. It leads to the Ateliers des Capucins, a former shipyard that has been transformed into a lively multicultural spot. Your clients can also visit 70.8, a new scientific (and fun) museum exploring the ocean and maritime innovation. A captivating experience. And don’t forget Océanopolis and its XXL aquariums for an unparalleled dive into all the world’s oceans.

Step 02

Storm the Fort de Bertheaume!

All the way west, towards Plougonvelin. On the way, stop off at the Petit Minou lighthouse, which guards the entrance to the roadstead of Brest. You’ll find an Instagram-worthy moment at the end of its stone bridge! Once in Plougonvelin, a footbridge leads to the islet of Fort de Bertheaume. A breathtaking view of the Iroise Sea… and a guaranteed adrenaline rush for your clients. Have they heard of Accrobranche (tree-top course)? Introduce them to the Accrorocher rock adventure course! On this heritage site, guided by Bertheaume Iroise, visitors can cross monkey bridges and rope bridges, climb cave ladders, scale cliffs and soar through the air on zip-lines… with coastal birds as their playmates.

Step 01

Lanildut, the seaweed capital

The programme includes a walk in the fresh sea air along one of France’s most famous coastal paths: the GR® 34! From Lanildut to Porspoder, your clients will wind their way along 8 km of rocky Iroise Sea and open moorland…

We haven’t even set sail yet, but you can already smell the sea in Lanildut – Europe’s leading seaweed port. Just opposite, the Iroise Sea is home to Europe’s largest seaweed field… where tonnes are brought ashore every day. To find out all there is to know about seaweed harvesting, pay a visit to the Maison des Algues. The history of seaweed harvesting, the changing techniques, the uses of seaweed and the innovations associated with this natural resource can all be explored here through games, films and models. And after the visit? Head to the quayside to watch the seaweed harvesters at work: unloading the boats is definitely worth seeing!

Step 02

Cosy sofas, an unusual port and an enchanting chapel...

Halfway along the route you can stop off at Le Chenal to rest and relax. Part bookshop, part restaurant, part tearoom… and an institution in the Pays d’Iroise. With cosy sofas, home-style seafood dishes and the sound of the waves in the background, it’s sure to be a big hit with your clients! And when the tide goes out? They can also take the opportunity to explore the small Île de Melon and its dolmen, just opposite. Back on the GR® 34, you can see the wooden piles emerging from the sea. These are used to moor boats in the small port of Mazou. How intriguing! Before moving on, a word of advice: wander a little inland to the pretty chapel of Saint-Ourzal, surrounded by boulders and megaliths. A mythical and enchanting place…

Step 03

The Four lighthouse is in your sights

As you approach Porspoder, the waters of the English Channel and the Atlantic merge directly in front of you. Before arriving, your clients will pass by the Pointe de Garchine and its orientation board. The view of the Iroise Sea is breathtaking… as is that of the Four lighthouse, an isolated landmark off the coast It is best seen from the beautiful and delicate Saint-Laurent peninsula. You’ll feel like you’re at the edge of the world, with its secluded coves, vast moorland and wild flowers. The tour takes less than an hour… and is well worth one last bit of effort!
